Just Say No to Involuntary Motherhood

In the United States we hold sacred the basic tenets of freedom: the right to free speech, the right to practice any religion (or not), the right to bear arms, the right to be secure in our possessions and persons. And yet a tiny group of White Imperialist Male Patriarchal Sexists (WIMPS, for short) seeks to strip young American women of their right to be secure in their persons by forcing them into Involuntary Motherhood.

It is a ruse to think the WIMPS really care about babies or children or I suspect they would actually do something about the—already living— 11.9 million children in poverty, 12.9 million children going hungry from living in “food insecure” homes, or the 1.6 million children who are homeless in the course of a year. (Yeah- in the USA- these are government numbers.)

Nope, this is simply another attack on women: a continuation of the misogynistic policies and procedures in the USA that prevent women from independence and self-determination, and further seek to diminish their rights.

Now, I understand that these WIMPS from various parts of the country never got beyond the Second Amendment, but guys, there are a whole bunch more! According to the 13th Amendment of the Constitution, except as punishment for a crime for which the person has been duly convicted, involuntary servitude shall not exist in the US or any of its jurisdictions. This brings up a couple of thoughts.

The first thought is: Involuntary Servitude. Involuntary Motherhood. The key word here is ‘involuntary’. That is where the similarity lies, and it is the protection from involuntary subjugation that the 13th Amendment intends. We don’t force people into professions; we don’t force them into churches; we don’t force them to have jobs, learn to drive, go to college. But we’re going to force a specific segment of society- young women- into Involuntary Motherhood? it’s not going to fly, fellows.

The second thought is: Jurisdiction. as far as I’ve heard, the WIMPS have not been successful in getting Texas to secede and so are still within the jurisdiction of the US. Therfore, they have no real hope for their reactionary ideals to last. But since these guys obviously do not believe in the most basic principles of our Democratic Republic, I suggest they go hang where their perverse outlook on women would be acceptable— with the Taliban.

In the slim chance that SCOTUS actually allows any of this misogynistic garbage to stand, please accept my offering below for the next Constitutional Amendment:

The right of each female to decide for herself whether or not to procreate shall not be abridged.

If you agree, please write or call your Senators and Representatives (202) 224-3121. Call the White House (202) 456-1414. And of course, don’t forget to let the Supreme Court know how you feel too: Supreme Court of the United States; 1 First Street NE; Washington, DC 20543.

Heck, feel free to print this out, sign that you agree, and send it to them.

With Liberty and Justice for All!
